The Galapagos are calling. But what should you know before you go?

Planning a trip to the Galapagos Islands comes with many exciting questions. Should you take a cruise or go Island Hopping? How many days you need to see it all ? Trip Planning & Duration

1. What is the best time to visit the Galapagos?
Galapagos is a year-round wildlife paradise, there truly isn’t a bad month to visit. However, the islands have two distinct seasons, each offering different weather and marine conditions.

- Cool & Dry “Garúa” Season (June to November): Air/Water 18–22°C (64–71°F). Breezy days with cooler waters—a 3 mm shorty wetsuit (included on our snorkeling tours) keeps you comfortable while snorkeling, and diving tours include a full wetsuit. Peak marine action: sea lion pups and whale sharks.

- Warm & Wet Season (December to May): Air 27–31°C (80–88°F) | Water 24–26°C (75–78°F). Sunny with warm, calm seas. Snorkeling is comfortable in regular swimwear or a light rashguard. Best for turtle nesting.
2. How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 3 to 6 months in advance, especially if you plan to travel for peak season (July–August and December–January).
However, we can often accommodate last-minute bookings depending on availability.
3. Can I start my tour on any date?
Yes. Most Smart Galapagos Island Hopping tours are flexible and can start on the day that works best for your travel plans, subject to hotel, tour, and transportation availability.
Because these itineraries are customizable, we can usually adapt the sequence of activities around your arrival and departure dates.
There are a few exceptions. Diving Island Hopping programs may have fixed start days, depending on the diving schedule, while Galapagos cruises operate on specific departure dates according to each yacht’s itinerary.
If your dates are fixed, we recommend booking early so we can secure the best combination of hotels, excursions, and transportation.
4. Can I change my travel dates after booking?
Yes. We understand that travel plans can change, and we’ll always do our best to help.
Date changes are subject to availability and to the cancellation and modification policies of both Smart Galapagos and the individual hotels, yachts, airlines, and tour operators included in your booking. Depending on how close the change is to your travel date, additional fees or fare differences may apply.
The earlier you contact us, the more options we’re likely to have. Last-minute changes may be limited, unavailable, or involve extra costs, especially for services that have already been confirmed or prepaid.
5. How many days do I need in Galapagos?
For most first-time travelers, 7 to 10 days is the sweet spot. It gives you enough time to experience different islands, wildlife and activities without turning the trip into a race.
6 days works well if your travel window is limited and you want a strong introduction to Galapagos.
8–10 days is our preferred range for most travelers. It gives you time to combine several islands, snorkeling, wildlife, beaches and land activities while still enjoying the journey at a comfortable pace.
12–15 days is ideal for travelers who want a deeper experience, especially nature lovers, photographers and anyone who wants to explore more remote areas without unnecessary backtracking.
If you have the time, one of the most complete ways to experience Galapagos is to combine both travel styles: around 8 days of Island Hopping plus a 6–8 day cruise. That gives you the flexibility and land-based experiences of Island Hopping together with access to remote cruise-only visitor sites.
6. What is the best Galapagos tour for a first-time visitor?
Our 8-Day Galapagos 360 – Ideal is our signature recommendation. It delivers a balanced, seamless Island Hopping journey using direct inter-island flights. Spending your time with wildlife and multi-sport adventure, rather than spending hours on open water transfers and free days. You will explore San Cristobal, Santa Fe, Isabela & Santa Cruz. You will also have the option to upgrade to North Seymour or Bartolome Islands, or even go scuba diving. If you prefer Premium accommodations and Superior services, the best Galapagos tour is our 8-Day Galapagos 360 - Superior.
7. Is 6 days enough for Galapagos?
Yes, as long as your itinerary is smartly designed. Our 6-Day Galapagos Wisdom – Ideal focuses on high-value visitor sites on Santa Cruz, Santa Fe and Isabela, pairing day trips with iconic land and snorkeling excursions to visit incredible spots in a short time. North Seymour is an optional tour if you’d like to see Frigate birds, land iguanas, blue footed boobies and more.
8. Is a 15 days in Galapagos a good option?
Of course, it’s perfect if you love wildlife, relaxing on a white sand beach, good food and amazing exploration. A 15-day itinerary (15-Day Galapagos 360 – Ideal) allows you enjoy some unique land and snorkeling adventures, volcanic hikes, and cultural encounters, great food and extra time to just relax at some of the beautiful beaches of Galapagos. Explore Santa Cruz, North Seymour, Santa Fe, Pinzón, Española, Lobos Island & San Cristobal. You can also upgrade to visit Bartolome or South Plazas.
9. What is Island Hopping?
Island Hopping (also known as a land-based tour) means staying in hand-picked smart hotels on inhabited islands (Santa Cruz, Isabela, or San Cristóbal) by night, while setting out on a new adventure every day. You can snorkel, hike, kayak, e-bikes, or dive. We build to your personal preferences.
Travel between islands via speedboats or small plane flights (up to 9 passengers). Explore on premium or Luxury day-yachts to uninhabited islands with beautiful beaches. Boat tours to unique snorkeling sites like Lava Tunnels and Cabo Rosas, our preferred snorkeling spot in Galapagos (where cruise ships aren’t allowed!).
10. Is island hopping cheaper than taking a Galápagos cruise?
Generally, island hopping can be a more budget-friendly way to explore the Galápagos Islands, especially if you choose comfortable but affordable hotels and select day tours that fit your budget. Unlike a cruise, you can decide where to stay, which activities to include, and how much you want to spend.
However, island hopping isn't always cheaper. Accommodation, meals, inter-island transfers, and guided excursions are usually paid for separately, and these costs can add up. Cruises typically include accommodation, meals, transportation between visitor sites, and guided excursions in one package. They can also reach remote islands that are difficult to visit on day trips.
Ultimately, the best option depends on your budget, travel style, and the experiences you want to enjoy. Island hopping offers greater flexibility and the chance to experience local island life, while a cruise provides a more comprehensive, all-in-one exploration of the archipelago.
Neither is universally “better”—they suit different travel styles:
| Feature | Island Hopping (Land-Based) | Small-Ship Expedition Cruise |
|---|---|---|
| Accommodation | Spacious boutique hotels on land | Cabins on motor yachts or catamarans |
| Flexibility | Choice of local dining; flexible, personalized pacing | Fixed ship itineraries & set group meal times |
| Seasickness | Minimal (you sleep on calm land every night) | Moderate (sailing overnight across open ocean) |
| Island Reach | Covers 3 main islands + surrounding day-yacht islands | Reaches outer, remote islands (Genovesa, Fernandina, etc.) |
| Activities | Hiking, e-biking, kayaking, snorkeling, town walks | Zodiac (panga) rides, dry/wet landings, deep-water snorkeling |
12. Can I combine Island Hopping with a cruise?
Absolutely. In fact, combining a 4 or 6 day cruise to outer islands (like Genovesa or Española) with a Smart 4 to 6 days of our Galapagos Wisdom Island Hopping tour is one of our favorite recommendations. It gives you the absolute best of both worlds.
13. Can Smart Galapagos customize my trip?
Yes! Customization is our specialty. We tailor every element—from hotel categories and boat tiers to activity levels, dietary preferences, and island routing—to perfectly match your timeline, and budget.

19. What is the difference between Comfort, Comfort Plus, Premium, Premium Plus & Luxury hotels?
We categorize our accommodations to match your exact preferences:
- Comfort / Standard: Clean, comfortable, locally run hotels with private bathrooms, hot water, and air conditioning. Everything you need for a restful stay.
- Comfort Plus / Superior: Upgraded lodges in prime locations, offering superior comfort and attentive, warm service. Some can have pools as well.
- Premium: High-end boutique properties featuring stylish interiors, premium facilities, and elevated comfort. Bigger, better, nicer rooms and social areas.
- Premium Plus: Exceptional boutique hotels boasting stunning sea views, swimming pools, spacious suites, and refined local gastronomy.
- Luxury: World-class retreats such as Finch Bay, Indigo, or Royal Palm, complete with private balconies, fine dining, spa facilities, and bespoke hospitality.
20. Is island hopping in the Galapagos safe?
Yes, Galapagos is one of the safest places in South America. All inter-island transportation is run by licensed local operators under strict Galapagos National Park regulations. With fully guided excursions, organized ground transfers, and 24/7 assistance from our team on the ground, you can relax knowing every detail is handled safely and comfortably from start to finish.
21. Can I upgrade only certain parts of my tour?
Yes, absolutely! That is the beauty of working directly with a local DMC like Smart Galapagos. You have total freedom to mix and match. For example, booking an Ideal tour package while adding a Luxury Day Yacht trip to Bartolomé, or securing an oceanfront room upgrade for your nights on Isabela. We build the itinerary around your exact preferences!
Galapagos Cruises & Private Charters

22. Does Smart Galapagos also book expedition cruises?
Yes. We curate and sell hand-picked cruises across all vessel categories. Crucially, we help you evaluate both the boat’s quality and its exact itinerary—because even a 5-star yacht might be disappointing if its route misses the wildlife you dreamed of seeing.
23. Which Galapagos cruise ships do you recommend?
While we work with all certified vessels in the archipelago, four of our top client picks across categories are:
- Tourist Superior Pick — M/Y Monserrat: Excellent value with an authentic, intimate small-yacht feel.
- First Class Pick — M/C Seaman Journey: A stable catamaran featuring spacious cabins and an outstanding crew.
- Luxury Pick — M/Y Infinity: Huge staterooms, private balconies, two National Park certified guides for smaller excursion groups, and interconnected cabins that are perfect for families.
- Ultra-Luxury Pick — M/Y Hermes: An exclusive mega-catamaran with private balcony suites and personal butler service.
- Monserrat: Value & Small Yacht Charm
- Seaman Journey: First Class Stability
- Infinity: Luxury Yacht Experience
- Hermes: Luxury Balconies & Personal Service
24. Why do you recommend Monserrat Cruise?
It delivers fantastic value in the Tourist Superior category. It offers classic small-yacht intimacy, outstanding naturalist guides, and flexible 4, 5, and 8-day routes at fair prices.
25. Why do you recommend Seaman Journey Cruise?
Catamarans offer superior stability on open water. Seaman Journey stands out for its spacious twin hulls, comfortable staterooms, sun decks, and exceptional customer ratings.
26. Why do you recommend Infinity Cruise?
M/Y Infinity is our Smart pick for luxury cruise travel. It features exceptionally large staterooms with private balconies, interconnected cabins that are perfect for families, two National Park certified guides for smaller excursion groups, and top-tier service on board.
27. What makes Hermes Cruise special?
Hermes represents the pinnacle of luxury in Galapagos: accommodating just 20 guests, offering private jacuzzi balconies on every suite, a 1:1 guest-to-crew ratio, gourmet dining, and an onboard spa.
28. What matters more: the cruise ship or the itinerary?
The itinerary comes first. A western route (Isabela and Fernandina) offers dramatic volcanic geology and flightless cormorants, while a southern route (Española and Floreana) features waved albatrosses and blowholes. We select your route based on your bucket-list wildlife first, then match the vessel to your budget and availability. If there is no availability in your selected category on your travel dates, we will opt for a different category together.
29. What do North, South, East, West, and Central cruise routes mean?

- West (Isabela & Fernandina): Volcanoes, penguins, flightless cormorants, whales.
- North (Genovesa): Seabird paradise: red-footed boobies, frigatebirds, storm petrels.
- South (Española & Floreana): Waved albatrosses, marine iguanas, snorkeling at Devil’s Crown.
- East (San Cristóbal & Kicker Rock): Sea lion colonies, hammerheads, blue-footed boobies.
- Central (Santa Cruz, Bartolomé, North Seymour, Santiago, South Plazas): Iconic pinnacles, Blue Footed boobies, Frigate birds, land iguanas, birds.
30. How long should my Galapagos cruise be?
A 4 to 5-day cruise is perfect when combined with a land-based tour. A stand-alone cruise is best at 7 to 8 days to allow full coverage of outer regions without spending half your trip in transit. Many travelers prefer to enjoy and explore for 12 days with a curated itinerary so you don’t visit the same spot twice.
31. Can Smart Galapagos arrange a private yacht charter?
Yes. We organize private charters for multi-generational families, alumni groups, or corporate retreats across all boat categories.
32. Are private Galapagos charters only for large groups?
Not necessarily. Families of 8 to 12 often charter a 16-passenger yacht exclusively to gain complete privacy, custom excursion timing, and child-friendly menus.
33. Are Galapagos cruises suitable for families?
Yes, but boat selection is crucial. Some vessels have minimum age requirements (e.g., 6 or 8 years old), while catamarans can offer stability and cabin configurations for families.Contact us to see the best options for you and your family.
34. What is a typical day like on a Galapagos cruise?
- 07:00: Breakfast onboard.
- 08:00: Dry or wet landing for a guided nature hike.
- 10:30: Snorkeling session or panga (Zodiac) ride along sea cliffs.
- 12:30: Buffet lunch and navigation rest time.
- 15:00: Afternoon coastal kayak, paddleboard, or second island landing.
- 18:30: Evening briefing on upcoming wildlife by your naturalist guide, followed by dinner.
35. Will I get seasick on a Galapagos cruise?
Some travelers do, especially during the cool season (August to October) when ocean swells increase. If you are prone to motion sickness, we recommend:
- Choosing an Island Hopping tour (sleeping on land).
- Booking a stable catamaran instead of a single-hull yacht.
- Requesting lower-deck, mid-ship cabins.
Flights, Entry Fees & Biosecurity
36. How do I get to the Galapagos Islands?
All visitors fly into mainland Ecuador—either via Quito (UIO) or Guayaquil (GYE)—and catch a domestic connecting flight to Galapagos.
37. Which Galapagos airport should I fly into?
There are two main airports: Baltra (GPS), serving Santa Cruz, and San Cristóbal (SCY).
Smart Tip: Our Galapagos 360 itineraries intentionally fly into Baltra and depart from San Cristobal to prevent lost travel days returning to your starting island! If you have already your flights booked differently, no problem, we can arrange that with a short customization of your chosen tour.
38. Does Smart Galapagos book international and domestic flights?
We can advise you on exact flight routes, times and airlines so you can purchase domestic tickets easily. We can even select and send the best flight options to you so you can book the best flight at the best price.
39. What is the Galapagos Transit Control Card (TCT)?
The TCT is a mandatory government registration card used to monitor migration flow. The fee is US$20 per person, payable in cash at the airport in Quito or Guayaquil before departure or registered online in advance. Your Smart Galapagos travel assistant will help you with all this information.
40. How much is the Galapagos National Park entrance fee?
As of 2026, official entrance fees (payable in cash upon landing in Galapagos) are:
| Traveler Category | Age 12+ Fee | Under 12 Fee |
|---|---|---|
| International Visitors | US $200 | US $100 |
| CAN / Mercosur Residents | US $100 | US $50 |
| Ecuadorian Citizens / Residents | US $30 | US $15 |
41. Why is luggage inspected before flying to Galapagos?
The Galapagos ecosystem is fragile. ABG (Biosecurity Agency) officers inspect all checked and carry-on bags in mainland airports using X-rays and sniffer dogs to prevent invasive seeds, insects, or uninspected organic matter from entering the archipelago.
42. Can I bring food into Galapagos?
Factory-sealed, commercially packaged foods are permitted (like energy bars, nuts, or baby formula). Fresh fruits, unpasteurized dairy, seeds, or fresh meats are strictly prohibited.
43. What is the luggage allowance on inter-island aircraft?
On small inter-island hopper flights—used in all our Galapagos 360 tours—the standard total weight limit is 35 lbs (16 kg) per traveler. This typically covers a 30 lb checked bag plus a 5 lb small carry-on. If you bring additional luggage, excess weight fees can be paid directly at the airport counter, or you can inform us in advance so we can arrange it for you at a discounted rate per extra pound.
44. Why use inter-island flights instead of speedboats?
A public speedboat between Isabela and San Cristóbal takes over 4.5 hours across open sea, requiring a layover on Santa Cruz of around 6 hours. An inter-island flight takes around 40 minutes on average, saving an entire day of travel that we use for an additional activity.
45. Are inter-island speedboats bumpy?
They can be rough depending on wind and wave conditions. For guests sensitive to sea motion, we integrate private inter-island flights. At Smart Galapagos, we only work with the best, newest and largest speed boats, but they can still be bumpy.
Wildlife & Marine Activities

46. How close can I get to wildlife in Galapagos?
Animals in Galapagos evolved without natural human fear, allowing remarkably close encounters. However, National Park regulations strictly mandate staying at least 2 meters (6 feet) away from all animals at all times. Touching, feeding, or using flash photography is forbidden.
47. Why aren’t animals in the Galapagos afraid of humans?
Galapagos wildlife evolved over millions of years in extreme geographical isolation without large terrestrial mammalian predators. Because humans only arrived recently in evolutionary history, animals never developed an instinctive fear response to our presence.
48. How did penguins get to the Galapagos?
Galapagos penguins are descendants of ancestral penguins brought north from southern South America and Antarctica by the cold, nutrient-rich Humboldt and Cromwell ocean currents.
49. Why are there different species of giant tortoises in the Galapagos?
Through adaptive radiation across isolated islands with different environments. Tortoises in humid, leafy highlands developed heavy dome-shaped shells to graze low foliage, while those on arid islands evolved “saddleback” shells with flared openings and long necks to reach high cacti.
50. Where is the best place to see Galapagos penguins?
- Island Hopping: Isabela Island (Tintoreras walking & Snorkeling, Tintoreras Kayaking & Los Túneles de Lava / Cabo Rosas) and Bartolomé Island.
- Cruises: Western Isabela, Fernandina, and Bartolomé.
51. Where can I see blue-footed boobies?
Blue-footed boobies nest on North Seymour, Española, and San Cristóbal, though they can be spotted fishing along rocky coastlines archipelago-wide.
52. When is the mating season for blue-footed boobies?
Blue-footed boobies can mate year-round whenever food like sardines and anchovies is abundant. However, peak courtship activity—featuring their iconic high-stepping foot dance—is most active during the cool season from June to August.
53. When is the best time to visit Española Island to see the Waved Albatross?
The best time is between April and December, when the entire world population of Waved Albatrosses gathers on Española to breed and rear chicks. They leave the islands and live at sea from January through March.
54. Where can I see giant tortoises in the wild?
The Santa Cruz Highlands offer prime viewing of wild giant tortoises roaming free through lush pastures. Isabela and San Cristóbal also host world-class breeding centers such as Arnaldo Tupiza and Galapaguera.
- Santa Cruz Highlands: Wild Tortoises in Lush Pastures
- Isabela & San Cristóbal: Tortoise Breeding Centers
55. Will I see sharks while snorkeling?
Yes! Friendly Whitetip reef sharks ("tintoreras”) and Black tip sharks are routinely seen resting in shallow lava channels. Snorkeling at sites like Kicker Rock (Leon Dormido) or Gordon Rocks frequently yields hammerheads and Galapagos sharks.
56. Do I need to be an experienced snorkeler?
No. Many visitor sites feature gentle beach entries perfect for beginners. Guides provide life jackets and assistance. For deep-water snorkeling off boats, flotation devices are always available. Please inform us if you would like to minimize your deep sea snorkeling experiences.

57. Can I go scuba diving during an Island Hopping trip?
Yes! We can build dedicated day-diving excursions—such as to North Seymour, Kicker Rock, or Gordon Rocks—into your custom land-based itinerary. For Kicker Rock and Gordon Rocks, you will need to have previous diving experience of at least 20 to 30 logged dives.
58. Is Galapagos good for active travelers?
It’s an active traveler’s paradise! You can combine morning volcano treks at Sierra Negra, afternoon sea kayaking, e-biking to Puerto Chino, ocean surfing, mountain biking to the Wall of Tears, deep-sea snorkeling, and diving.
Family & Custom Travel

59. Is Galapagos suitable for children?
It is one of the most rewarding educational trips on Earth. Kids are captivated by sea lion pups, wild tortoises, lava tunnels, and playful penguins. Small children might need a special itinerary.
60. Is Island Hopping better for families than a cruise?
For most families with kids between 6 and 10, Island Hopping is ideal:
- More space to burn energy on land.
- Freedom to choose family-friendly activities.
- Flexible daily schedules with less sea sickness worries.
61. Can Smart Galapagos design a fully private family trip?
Yes. We regularly craft completely private family tours with private ground transfers, more land excursions and wildlife, a more relaxed pace so you can enjoy the beach, more close-by land wildlife encounters and less ocean deep snorkeling.
Practical Travel Tips & Packing

62. What currency is used in Galapagos?
The official currency is the US Dollar ($).
63. Should I bring cash?
Yes. While major restaurants accept credit cards, cash is essential for the $200 National Park fee, $20 TCT card, small town cafés, water taxis ($1–$2 per ride), local crafts, and tips for guides and crew.
64. Is there reliable internet in Galapagos?
Wi-Fi is available at all our chosen Smart Galapagos hotels in Puerto Ayora, Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, and Puerto Villamil. Ecuadorian cellular coverage (Claro/Tigo) works in town centers. On cruises you might have wifi depending on the cruise. On day tours to uninhabited islands and smart activities, some boats do have Starlink wifi while others don’t, connectivity might be minimal or non-existent—a great excuse to unplug!
65. What should I pack for Galapagos?
Keep it lightweight and functional:
- Footwear: Lightweight trail shoes or sturdy water sandals (Teva or Chaco style).
- Apparel: Rashguards (UPF 50+) and swimwear.
- Sun Protection: Polarized sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat.
- Skin Care: Reef-safe sunscreen and biodegradable insect repellent.
- Outerwear: Lightweight rain jacket or windbreaker.
- Gear: Dry bag for cameras and phones during wet boat landings.
- Wellness: Motion sickness medication (just in case).
66. Is the equator sun really that strong?
Yes! Because you are directly on the equator, UV rays are intense even on overcast days. Daily application of reef-safe sunscreen and wearing a hat are mandatory protection.
67. Will I need a wetsuit?
From June to November, when water temperatures range between 18 °C and 22 °C (64 °F to 71 °F), a 3 mm shorty wetsuit is highly recommended. During the warm season from December to May, the water is comfortable in swimwear or a thin rashguard. Our snorkeling tours include a 3 mm shorty wetsuit, and our diving tours include a full wetsuit.
68. Can I drink tap water in Galapagos?
No. Drink purified water only. All our partner hotels and cruise ships provide purified water stations to refill your reusable bottle. As a courtesy, we will provide you with a reusable stainless steel water bottle upon arrival.
69. What electrical outlets are used?
Type A and B plugs (110–120V / 60Hz, the same as in the United States). Visitors from Europe or the UK will need a plug adapter.
70. What are the tipping guidelines?
Tipping is discretionary but deeply appreciated by hard-working local staff:
- Naturalist Guides: $10–$20 per guest per day.
- Cruise Crew: $15–$25 per guest per day (distributed among ship staff).
- Day-Boat Crews / Drivers: $5–$10 per trip.
- Transport driver (Island Hopping): $10–$15 per guest per day.
- Galapagos Travel Assistant: $10–$25 per guest per day.
71. Do I need travel insurance?
Yes. Due to the remote location of the archipelago, comprehensive travel insurance covering emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation, and activity coverage is strongly advised. We can offer custom insurance for your booking on the same booking link.

76. Are the +450 5-star reviews real?
Yes, 100%. All +450 five-star reviews across TripAdvisor, Google, Trustpilot and Wetravel are independent travel platforms with our amazing and very real, verified guests who have traveled on our custom Galapagos Island Hopping tours and cruise itineraries.
77. Why book with Smart Galapagos instead of booking everything yourself?
Galapagos logistics are more complex than they first appear. Hotel availability, day tours, permits, activity schedules, pickups, inter-island transportation, flight connections, yacht availability and even sea conditions all need to work together smoothly.
Booking with a local Destination Management Company (DMC) like Smart Galapagos saves you from having to compare hundreds of boats, yachts, hotels and local operators on your own. We already know which services we trust, how the islands connect and how to build an itinerary that avoids unnecessary backtracking and wasted time.
Trying to book everything after arrival can also be risky. Popular day tours and yachts often sell out in advance, especially on fixed travel dates, so the excursion you really want may no longer be available.
With Smart Galapagos, you get hand-picked local services, coordinated logistics, direct local pricing and personal support before and during your trip.
78. What is a Smart Galapagos Travel Assistant?
Your Travel Assistant is your direct, personal trip designer on the ground in Ecuador. No call centers or generic response bots—just an expert who gets to know your travel style, answers your questions, and refines your itinerary until it’s perfect. Your assistant will be with you via WhatsApp at all times during your tour for any questions or assistance.
79. Will I have support once I land in the islands?
Yes. You receive full-time local support from your Galapagos Travel Assistant and our ground team. If a flight delays or you need a schedule tweak, we can handle it instantly whenever possible.
80. What is the Smart Kit?
Every guest booking a multi-day Smart Galapagos Island Hopping program receives our signature Smart Kit upon arrival, including an eco-friendly backpack, custom cap, and reusable stainless steel water bottle.

81. Does Smart Galapagos support local conservation?
Yes! For every traveler who explores Galapagos with us, we plant a native tree in Ecuador to help reforest ecosystems and offset carbon footprints. At no extra cost to you, you will receive a personal QR code with all the details of the tree you helped plant and nurture. You can see it grow!
82. Do you only offer Island Hopping?
No. We offer Island Hopping tours, expedition cruises, hybrid Cruise + Land packages, scuba diving Island hopping tours, private cruise charters, as well as tours to mainland Ecuador, Amazon jungle, Peru and Patagonia extensions.
83. Can you organize honeymoon or anniversary trips?
Yes! We create romantic getaways featuring oceanfront suites, private sunset dinners, premium yacht tours, and off the beaten path visits.
84. Can you accommodate senior travelers?
Absolutely. We customize pacing, select hotels with ground-floor access, choose smooth transportation, and tailor walking trails to match your mobility preference.
85. Can you accommodate special dietary needs?
Yes. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, allergies, and halal requirements are easily accommodated on land and aboard cruises when advised in advance.
Mainland Ecuador & South America Extensions
86. Can Smart Galapagos organize mainland Ecuador trips?
Yes. We can extend your Galapagos journey with a customized mainland Ecuador itinerary, from a few extra nights in Quito to a complete multi-day trip through the Andes and Amazon.
Popular options include historic Quito, Otavalo, Cotopaxi, Cuenca, traditional Andean haciendas, cloud forest lodges such as Mashpi and Sachatamia, and Amazon experiences in Yasuní National Park and Cuyabeno Reserve. We can also arrange stays at lodges such as Napo Wildlife Center, Sani Lodge and La Selva Lodge.
For travelers who want to see much more of Ecuador, we also offer 5, 7 and 10-day Avenue of the Volcanoes itineraries, traveling from Quito through the Andes toward Cuenca or Guayaquil, with volcanoes, highland landscapes, Amazon Jungle, local culture and carefully selected accommodations along the way.
87. Can you add an Amazon Rainforest extension?
Yes! Combining the marine wildlife of Galapagos with a 4-5 day stay at an Amazon eco-lodge in Yasuní or Cuyabeno creates the ultimate Ecuador biodiversity journey.
88. Can Smart Galapagos organize Machu Picchu & Peru?
Yes. We can combine Galapagos with Peru into one coordinated South America itinerary, working with trusted local specialists to organize Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and other key destinations in Peru.
For a shorter extension, we offer 3, 4 and 5 day Cusco & Machu Picchu tours, ideal for travelers adding Peru before or after Galapagos.
If you want a more complete experience, we also arrange 7, 8 and 9 day Peru tours, with more time for Cusco, the Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu and additional cultural and scenic highlights.
This allows you to combine Galapagos + Machu Picchu in one seamless trip, with the logistics coordinated for you from start to finish.
89. Can I combine Galapagos with Patagonia?
Yes. For travelers with 2 to 3 weeks available, we design cross-continent journeys pairing equatorial Galapagos wildlife with Patagonia’s dramatic fjords and glaciers. We can also do Antartic expedition cruises.
90. How do I get started planning my trip?
Simply reach out to us! You don’t need to have every detail figured out. Tell us your dates, travel style, and budget, and we’ll craft a tailor-made proposal.
